Meet Liz. Liz is an American data science manager working at Intel in Portland, Oregon. She is also a YouTuber that likes to film videos on software products for work, personal side hustles, and content creation. She also loves books! π
How she became a SheCodes Ambassador?
Liz has a background in Mechanical Engineering. She had always wanted to learn how to code but was told that she needed to start at a young age. Because of that, she decided to go into Engineering instead of studying Computer Science. Eventually, when she graduated college, she learned about VBA in Excel which automated some manual tasks, and that sparked her interest in coding again! π

Liz completed SheCodes Pro to become a front-end developer in March 2022.

In addition, she started her YouTube channel to create a place to document her learning, and she also thought it would be a great way to connect with other people on the same journey to learn new skills.

She started filming videos early on because she wanted to reinforce the concepts by teaching them. She also noticed that there werenβt a lot of reviews of SheCodes so this became a great chance to spread the word about the SheCodes platform.π’

Liz explained that when she first started out on Youtube, it was a spontaneous decision. But after a few years, she developed a kanban board to track all videos and which affiliates she was promoting.

βI batch film 3-4 videos on Saturday - and my editor will work on them throughout the week. At any given point in time, I have videos ready to post 5-6 weeks in advance - enough buffer time in case of an emergency or getting sick.β

How she was her SheCodes experience?
Liz completed SheCodes Basics, Plus, Responsive, and React. She only reached out to the technical assistants once during the SheCodes React workshop. Out of all the workshops, she found Responsive to be her favorite! What's more, she found the tutorials and homework assignments to be both straightforward and fun! π€©

What is it like being a SheCodes Ambassador?
Liz mentions that a positive aspect of the ambassador program is the ability to promote SheCodes to other women who want to learn how to code but donβt know where to start.

βI meet women every day that think coding is too hard for them to even consider learning. There are a lot of fancy words and concepts that scare people away from trying. But by promoting this product and sharing how easy it is to learn how to code - and leading by example as a woman - I think they are more willing to give it a try.β

Liz also shared that she loves that the number of women who have taken the workshops is displayed on the SheCodes website. She thinks itβs great to see how much of an impact she is making on encouraging more women to learn to code, and is always excited to see them on the list of successful graduates. πͺ
